Gramvousa and Balos Lagoon Tour. Our bus and tour guide will pick you up in the morning around 07:00 am. The return is around 21:00. We use only the best boats, buses and tour guides for our tours and activities.
We will drive towards the port of Kissamos. There we will begin our cruise to two of the most popular places on Crete. The Gramvousa island, and the Balos lagoon beach.
During the one hour cruise to Gramvousa, you will have the chance to admire the impressive landscape. Steep rocks and hills, endless blue waters, and hidden beaches. You can also see the geological phenomenon of the tilting of Crete. It is rising out of the sea in the west and drowning in the east.
Note that according to the number of guests on the two locations the order of visits might change. In such an event we will visit Balos lagoon first. In the schedule section we explain the timings. We depart from Kissamos for the return journey around 16:30. We will also do a small stop at the Colymbaris area for a snack.
Gramvousa Island
We will get off the boat at Gramvousa island. It has a reputation as the “pirates’ island”. During the old ages its residents used to loot the passing boats.
It is famous for its Venetian fortress that once kept the Turks away. And also, for the old wreck that was left there many years ago. Now it has become a distinctive landmark.
You may climb up the sheer rock to the castle ruins. Enjoy amazing views of the deep blue and green waters of the lagoon. In Gramvousa you will have time to swim. And also explore the area and try to find the hidden pirate treasure. You may take photos of the breath taking views, or have lunch aboard.
Balos Lagoon Tour
In the afternoon, we will board the boat to the Blue lagoon of Balos. Whatever you may have heard about Balos lagoon beach, nothing can compare to how you feel when you set foot on it. The dozens of different shades of turquoise in the lagoon, the vibrant waters, the golden sand, the tamarisk trees, and also the reddish shells are going to blow your mind.
Gramvousa Island and Balos Lagoon forms one of the most important hydro biotopes and nature reserves of Crete. More than 100 bird species and 400 plant species. Balos is under the protection of the Natura 2000 program.
